Cary Academy offers this program for registered students in grades 6-8. The program provides students with quality, supervised care between 3:10 pm and 6:00 pm. It is designed to assist parents whose work schedules do not allow them to regularly pick up their children at dismissal time.
The goal of the Extended Day Program is to ensure that participating students enjoy a positive and meaningful after school experience. Therefore, the program is organized around academic, social, and physical activities. Students have opportunities to work on homework, play athletic and board games, and just relax with their peers. Staffing, activities, and facility use are planned in advance knowing the number of students registered for the program.
We keep the schedule as close as possible to what the students would be doing “at home”! After checking in at 3:10 pm, the students are encouraged to go outside, play games, and generally relax. While we do provide snacks and drinks, some like to go to the gym for other snacks and drinks. They must return by 3:30 pm. At 4:00 pm, homework time begins and everyone must settle down to quiet studying until at least 4:45 pm or until their homework is finished. Once homework is done, the students again relax with friends, play, and often will have an arts project in the works. On Fridays, there is no homework required and it is movie day!
The Extended Day Program operates the days that Cary Academy is open for classes (full days), and there are options for full, partial, and emergency use.
We look forward to having your son or daughter part of the Cary Academy family this year!
