Visual Arts

The Visual Arts offers students a rich array of hands on experience in 2-D, 3-D, Digital and Combined Media. In promoting the creation of unique and exciting art, we emphasize creative design, original content, aesthetic impact, collaborative problem solving and shared success.   Students will gain fluency with a diverse set of materials through creative playfulness in the studio where they will explore a variety of techniques, skills, and tools. Tablets are used for research and for creating.

In the Middle School, students in Visual Art will explore various 2-D and 3-D design challenges in drawing, painting, clay, glass, fabrics, recycled materials and more.

All 9th and 10th grade students will take a six-trimester course in Art and Design. The first trimester focuses on the Principles of Design and Composition. In subsequent trimesters, students will rotate through each of our studios (2-D, 3-D, and Digital), working on individual and collaborative projects which will broaden and deepen understandings of the design process using diverse media.

Other courses in the Upper School include drawing, painting, clay, glass, digital media, and mixed media.  Advanced Art in the 11th and 12th grade prepares selected students to submit portfolios to the College Board.

Other opportunities in Visual Art include yearbook, art clubs and production crews for extra-curricular theatrical productions.
