Andy Walsh - President

CA graduation year: Class of 2009
Current location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Job Title: Research specialist in Government Affairs at SAS Institute
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A. political science, North Carolina State University

Fondest CA memory: My fondest CA memories would be when both of my older brothers, Chris and Josh, were still at CA and running into them randomly around campus. I also loved my time playing on the lacrosse team with many friends and working out in the weight room with Coach Moore.

Alumni board interest: For me serving on the alumni board is about giving back to a community that gave me and my family such an incredible foundation. Cary Academy is a special place, and I hope I can continue to contribute in its future successes as an active alum.

Robert Parrott – Vice President

CA graduation year: Class of 2004
Current location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Job Title: Regional Director, Preservation North Carolina
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: UNC-Chapel Hill (B.A., Psychology); University of Alabama School of Law (J.D.)

Fondest CA memory: Ms. Franzene showing off her new "freshman silencer," a buzzer which she used to abruptly interrupt silly questions, during my junior year.

Alumni board interest: Like most of my fellow board members, I joined the Board in order to give something back to the CA community. Our founding members did an excellent job laying the groundwork for a successful association, and I would like to build on the foundation that they laid. Together, I believe we can make their vision for the CA Alumni Board become a reality. In doing so, I hope we will make CA a better place.

Tiffany Alexy – Secretary

CA graduation year: Class of 2008
Current location: Raleigh, NC
Job title:Community Manager, SoloPro & Real Estate Agent
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning:B.A. Spanish, Sociology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Masters in Global Innovation Management, North Carolina State University

Fondest CA memory:Vic Quesada's Spanish classes.  They were always engaging & fun and opened up a world to me that I never knew existed.  Went on to major in Spanish and also took 3 semesters of Italian and 1 of French in college because of the passion in languages that he fostered in his students!

Alumni board interest: I want to bridge the gap for students between school and life after school.  It's difficult to even know what kind of jobs and opportunities are out there until you actually step foot in the real world.  By preparing students early and giving them exposure to working with companies and career professionals at a young(er) age, I feel it will give them a real competitive advantage both professionally and personally.  CA gave me a leg up in life, and I want to give back to the school that contributed so much to shaping me intellectually.

Current location: Cary, NC
Job title: Program manager at Cisco in RTP/ event coordinator for Virtue Event Planning and Consulting
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A. communication, Meredith College

Fondest CA memory: That would have to be my study abroad trip with my class to Spain. We had a good time.

Alumni board interest: Cary Academy really played a big role in helping me become the person that I am today. That being said, I see this as the perfect opportunity to give back and pay it forward.

Jeremy Allen

CA graduation year: Class of 2003
Current location: Chapel Hill, NC
Job title: Director of Annual Support and Direct Marketing, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A., Elon University; M.A., University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Fondest CA memory: I loved our class trips, football on the quad, history with Conrad Hall, and the camaraderie of the basketball team. Probably my second happiest CA memory came in 2000-01, when we defeated Ravenscroft to take home the school's first conference championship. We were on top of the world that night. Beating Cardinal Gibbons on Senior Night was pretty awesome, too. By far my fondest CA memory, though, was flirting with my future wife after school while waiting for practice to start. Little did I know that over 10 years later we would married with a 2-year-old future Charger (Emerson - class of 2032).

Alumni board interest:Having made a career of development/alumni relations in the university setting, this seemed like the perfect volunteer opportunity. My CA experience was phenomenal. The academic rigor prepared me to succeed at the next level and beyond, while my teachers, coaches and mentors helped mold me into the person I am today. I am happy to give my time to such an important endeavor.

Kendall Bell

CA graduation year: Class of 2015
Current location: Durham, NC
Job title: Student
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: Duke University

Fondest CA memory: My seminal moments at CA extend from Todd Shy's World History course in 7th grade, through Band conferences and Track Conferences, to my exchange family, to the Rushin AP Chemistry experience, to my oral history group project senior year, to actually graduating.

Alumni board interest: I agree with everyone else in wanting to give back to a school that played such a large role in who I am becoming. I was also interested in attempting to open and/or sustain projects that might otherwise die as graduating classes move on.

Sam Fuchs

CA graduation year: Class of 2007
Current location: Washington, DC
Job title:Health Policy Research Consultant, Lewin Group, Washington, DC
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A. history, minor – economics and theater arts, Brandeis University

Fondest CA memory: It's very hard to pick one. I have many good memories from various theater productions, as well as a debate tournament in Boston my sophomore year in 2005.

Alumni board interest: I enjoyed serving as a student representative to the alumni board at Brandeis University, and I have enjoyed continuing this type of involvement with the Cary Academy Alumni Board. I am grateful every day for the education I received at Cary Academy, and want to ensure that others have the same opportunities to thrive in our unique learning environment.

Lianne Gonsalves

CA graduation year: Class of 2006
Current location: Geneva, Switzerland
Job title: Consultant, Technical Officer, World Health Organization
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.S. biological sciences, B.A. international studies, North Carolina State University; M.S.P.H, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health

Fondest CA memory: I have many: The Y1K festival and the Great Debate face-offs in seventh grade, language arts/history, hall-decorating contests in the Upper School, being on the first Cary Academy team to win a state championship (cross-country), making Macbeth videos in 10th grade, and history class with Mr. Staggers.

Alumni board interest: We have a young and incredibly talented alumni community that can be a valuable resource to Cary Academy's current faculty and students. I applied to the alumni board in order to facilitate opportunities for engagement in the classroom, in clubs and in athletics, creating opportunities to bring enthusiastic alums back to campus.

Katrina Hayes

CA graduation year: Class of 2005
Current location: Raleigh, NC
Job title: Software Engineer at NeoNova Network Services
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.S. mathematics, Stanford University

Fondest CA memory: That is probably a toss-up between the afterschool creative writing classes taught by Ms. Fairchild (2004-2005), and open lunches spent on the quad (playing Marco Polo on the grass comes to mind).

Alumni board interest: My life really changed direction for the better at Cary Academy, so the opportunity to give back to that community while helping it continue to grow and inspire seemed like a perfect fit.

Whitney Hill

CA graduation year: Class of 2005
Current location: Charlotte, NC
Job title: Insurance Defense Paralegal at Butler Weihmuller Katz Craig, LLP
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: Paralegal certificate, Meredith College; B.A. psychology, B.A. criminology, North Carolina State University

Fondest CA memory: My fondest memory from CA would have to be turning in my final assignment to Mr. Rushin in AP Chemistry. As someone who considered my strengths to be more in the liberal arts than math and science, that class really pushed me. Also, it was pretty good to know there would be no more 50-page lab reports in my future.

Alumni board interest: I am interested in serving on the CA Alumni Board to boost alumni involvement in the school. Some of my oldest and closest friends are ones I met while at CA. This seemed an excellent opportunity to reconnect with other friends I haven't kept up with, as well while giving back to the school that shaped many of my academic and professional opportunities.

Michael Kahn

CA graduation year: Class of 2009
Current location: Washington, DC
Job Title: Strategy Consultant at Kaiser Associates
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A. psychology, minor - economics, Magna Cum Laude, Duke University

Fondest CA memory: Pulling an all-nighter during the senior campout and setting up our senior prank and enjoying the night with friends as our high school lives were winding down. Also, beating Ravenscroft in lacrosse on Senior Night my junior year, and sending us to the state tournament was an amazing feeling. We won by one goal and fans rushed the field - incredible!

Alumni Board Interest: CA is largely responsible for the success I've felt so far through college and into my career. The school and community mean a lot to me, and I want to be a voice to help CA continue to grow and progress so that future students can have an experience similar to, or even better, than mine. I also believe that being four or five years out of high school has allowed me to see where CA can better prepare its students for college and work.

Brittany Kielhurn

CA graduation year: Class of 2003
Current location: Durham, NC
Job title: Vice President, Investments
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A. political science and economics, Duke University

Fondest CA memory: Watching the school grow from a construction site to the place it is today.

Alumni board interest: I want to give back to an institution which had a profoundly positive impact on my life, and help it to be such a place for others.

Current location: Cary, NC

College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A. psychology, University of Massachusetts, Amherst; J.D., DePaul University College of Law

Fondest CA memory: I enjoyed being a member of the varsity volleyball and softball teams.

Alumni board interest: I want to be involved in the CA Alumni Board so I can have a say in how the alumni are included in the Cary Academy community, especially alumni that graduated in one of the first classes and have not had a lot of opportunity to remain involved.

Keith Porcaro

CA graduation year: Class of 2004
Current location: Washington, DC
Job title:Head of Technology and Development / General Counsel, SIMLab

Fondest CA memory: Riding in the activity bus to the middle of nowhere to debate with other high schoolers. While wearing suits, naturally.

Alumni board interest: Looking forward to reconnecting with my first alma mater, and helping students connect with more interesting opportunities after school.

Teresa Porter

CA graduation year: Class of 2002
Current location: Apex, NC
Job title: Owner, photographer
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A. human services, Elon University

Fondest CA memory: My fondest Cary Academy memory is of my video production class with Mr. Jones. I loved learning all about the cameras and editing equipment and brainstorming scripts with my classmates. While "fondest" might not be the right word, my strongest Cary Academy memory is the group of us who put up the American flag the morning of Sept. 11 right after the terrorist attacks. It felt like something small we could do together to stand strong on that overwhelming day.

Alumni board interest: I welcome any opportunity to stay plugged in and giving back to Cary Academy, the school that has given me so much.

Alex Wilson

CA graduation year: Class of 2004
Job title: Attorney at Wyrick Robbins Yates & Ponton
Location: Raleigh, NC
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: B.A. history and German, Wake Forest University; J.D. & LLM in international and comparative law, Duke University

Fondest CA memory: Having a memory of the first school day of Cary Academy, along with my memory of being in the first graduating class to have started in the sixth grade, is special.

Alumni board interest: I wanted to give back to a community that molded me throughout my formative years as well as help ensure that the school continues to provide the experience I was able to enjoy. I also hope to provide leadership to the other alumni of the school for future involvement.

Jordan Winn

CA graduation year: Class of 2008
Job title:Director of Strategic Development, Fill Your Bucket List Foundation
Location: Washington, DC
College(s) attended and degrees earned/earning: UNC Wilmington, B.S., Business Administration: Operations Management

Fondest CA memory: Our 7th grade Chorus Trip to New York City. We absolutely sang our hearts out in Riverside Church that day; I can almost still hear the songs ringing in my ears. On the way home we were met with one of the biggest snow storms of the decade. We were trapped in a Holiday Inn between NC and NYC under several feet of snow, & singing to the guests each night. My strongest memory, though, was a "Step for Change" event that we held in memory of our late classmate, Johnnetta Overton. Carrying out her wish of the charity event bonded our class in a way I never thought possible. She will always be one of the kindest souls I have ever met.

Alumni board interest:: I cannot say enough wonderful things about this school. CA prepared me for not only college and life after college, but also gave me friends that have truly become family. I'm honored to give back to a community that has given me so much and look forward to helping the alumni community grow.
